Summary: It's the day - - the day they forever link themselves to each other.

Ed paced in the little dressing room, his nerves riding high. The knock at the door made him whirl around and he was confronted with his little brother watching him.

Al eyed him suspiciously. “You aren’t thinking of climbing out that window, are you?”

“Why?” Ed asked.

“Well, first of all, it’s open.”

“So?”

“Brother…it’s snowing. Normal people don’t open the window in the winter.”

“I’m not normal!”

Al coughed as he tried to contain his laughter. “I see that. Deep breaths, you’re marrying the love of your life today. Be happy.”

“What if he’s not?”

“Not what?”

“The love of my life?”

Al rolled his eyes. He patted his brother’s shoulder and pushed him down onto a chair. “You’ll be fine. In fact, everything will be great.”

Al sat down next to his brother and let Ed lean his head on his shoulder. Ed’s eyes were closed as he breathed. “I’m so nervous. It’s unbelievable. But I already ran away from this once. I’m not going to do it again.”

“That’s good. It’s probably just cold feet. I think many, err, people get them on their wedding day.”

“Do you think Roy is getting cold feet?”

Al thought for a second. “…probably.”

Riza straightened Roy’s uniform a bit more and patted his shoulders and arms to make everything sit better.

“You don’t look nervous.”

Roy shot her his boyish grin. “No. I’m not. How could I be? This is the most exciting day of my life.”

“Hmm,” Riza said and shook her head.

“Do you think Ed is nervous?”

“Likely,” Riza responded as she smoothed her dress down. “He’s probably full of nerves right now.”

“You know what? I’ll go check on him.”

Roy found Ed and Al sitting side by side on the bench.

“Ah…General.” Al said. “I’ll give you two a moment.” Al edged out of the room as the two men kept their eyes locked on each other.

“Are you alright?” Roy asked Ed who looked like he might be thinking about diving through the open window. Just in case Roy strode over and closed it.

“I’m…fine.”

“You’re getting cold feet,” but there was no accusation in Roy’s voice.

“Maybe a little.”

“Why?”

“This…this could very probably ruin your chances at being Fuhrer. Forever. Right?”

Roy hesitated before answering. He didn’t want to lie to Ed, but the truth was, it could. Honesty now was more important than anything.

“It could. Even if it did, Ed, even then, being Fuhrer is not the only way to shape a country. There are many other ways in which I can change it. Causes I can devote myself to. Ed – you’re important to me. So, very important. I do love you.”

Ed’s face flushed red as Roy pulled him into a hug. He rested there in Roy’s arms for a few minutes, just breathing.

A knock at the door had them pulling apart. “Are…you decent?” Havoc asked.

“Why wouldn’t we be?” Ed asked as he pulled open the door.

Sourly, he looked down at the eavesdroppers. They scuttled out of the way.

“It’s almost time,” Riza said, and Al nodded.

Ed’s fingers trembled, and Roy clasped them in his hands. “I’ll see you soon,” he said.

Ed shuffled up to the doors – big great oak ones. Al and Winry on either side of him, he was flanked by his two dearest friends, people he loved with no reservation.

Adorable Elicia was in front of him in a fluttery dress. Ed and Roy had agreed that it was appropriate for her to be both flower girl and ring bearer. In her father’s military cap she carried the rings, and a little necklace she wore was open to her father’s picture. She’d said, “So he could see too!”

In a moment they would walk through those doors – to the man Ed would be spending the rest of his life with. He was both scared and exhilarated at the same time. His chest throbbed in anticipation.

As the doors opened Elicia walked down the aisle, and Ed followed escorted by Al and Winry. They passed familiar faces – Armstrong, crying. Maria, Denny, there was Izumi, Sig and Mason. Fuery, Breda, Falman were also there. He could see Pinako crying in her seat, his chimera friends grinning and on their other side was Sheska. There were only two empty seats – one on either side of Gracia.

One for Elicia. And one for Hughes.

Ed felt tears prick at the corner of his eyes at the thought that the man he had considered a father was not here this day.

Roy waited at the front with Riza and Havoc at his side. As Ed stepped up onto the dais, Roy took his hand and squeezed it.

Time seemed to waver in front of Ed’s eyes until he heard Roy speaking.

“Edward, today is the day in which we interlock our lives. From the time we first met our paths have been inexplicably intertwined. Sometimes our journeys took us down separate paths, and then we joined together for a short time, but suddenly, our paths converged and ran along the same line. Before my best friend, Hughes’s, death, he said he always hoped I found someone good enough to be my partner in life. Someone who would support me no matter what. Someone who would love me whole heartedly and without reservation. I found that person in you, Edward. I love you.”

“Roy, when you found me all those years ago, I was a lost little boy. Even when I did stupid things and got in trouble you were always there to bail my as-my butt out. You, despite the fact I was ornery and a little rude, put up with me. I think in some ways I began to love you because you took me for everything I was. Metal or no metal, alchemy or not, you love me for who I am. I didn’t ever think I’d find someone to love – I didn’t think I deserved love for all the things I did. I am utterly grateful for your love, because without it I don’t know where I would be. Probably dead in a ditch somewhere when Al decided to stop saving my troublesome self. Roy, I love you more than anything.”

Ed watched as Roy’s eyes flickered down to the rings cradled in their hands. Ever so slowly they took turns slipping them on.

Then, Roy kissed him. A chaste kiss, a kiss that sealed their devotion.

The reception was loud. Ed watched Elicia from where he sat with Roy. Elicia had been following the photographer around, copying him and snapping photos with her camera.

Ed saw her snap one of Riza and Winry as he and Roy stepped out onto the dance floor for their first dance. She’d been there snapping photos when they cut the cake as well.

As Roy danced with him, Ed kept glancing around at the people who had come – Armstrong and Maria, Denny, Havoc had brought Rebecca, Riza and Breda, Fuery and Falman. There were so many people here today who loved and cared for them. To Ed it couldn’t have been a better day.

Ed let his head rest on Roy’s shoulder as they swayed. Eventually several more people joined them on the floor and Ed could hear the slap of shoes on the floor.

It was, he thought, worth all of the pain and struggle to get here. There was no doubt in his mind about that.

“Roy, we’re still going to talk about that thing. You do know that, right?”

If he felt Roy tense up, Ed ignored it. “It’s not going to go away. You and I need to have a long discussion.”

“Ed…”

“Don’t worry, we can be happy today. We’ll be happy – we’ll always be good to each other. I know that. I’m not going to fight with you now, don’t worry.”

“Saying don’t worry twice like that doesn’t make me worry less.”

Ed grinned. “I’m trustworthy right?”

“Incredibly, my love.”

May they be happy together forever!
